JEANNETTE STUTZMAN
Landscape Paintings en plein air
Born in 1963

Jeannette was born in Port Charlotte, Florida and spent much of her time with family. Each year they traveled extensively through the US, visiting many scenic and historic sites. The trips were filled with great memories of camping, fishing, marshmallows over the campfires, homemade applesauce and cobblers, songs and harmonica tunes. Many times the destinations were filled with beautiful mountains and rivers, wildflowers and wildlife. Jeannette knew early in grade school that she wanted to live in the mountains and be an artist.

The family moved to the foothills of South Carolina when the kids were teens. Jeannette attended art school in Greenville, SC and graduated in the graphic arts program.

Jeannette pursued a career in graphic arts that took her to Boston, Mass to work for software companies training and supporting designers in the packaging design field. After the birth of her son, Erik, Jeannette moved to Durango, CO. where she worked in an art gallery and sold ads for Durango Magazine.

In 1992, she moved to the Denver area where she worked in the prepress industry and began training in conjunction with the Colorado Institute of Art. In the mid 1990's Jeannette became an instructor at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in the Digital Media, Graphic Design, Foundations and Illustration departments. Jeannette continues to teach at RMCAD through the continuing education department and at Artful Journeys in Evergreen, Colorado.

For the past 5 years, Jeannette has owned her own design firm, Acme Graphic Design where she provides solutions in print, web, packaging, identity and branding. Visit the Acme Design web site at http://www.acmedesignonline.com

Jeannette began painting with oils in the last 7 years after many years of "learning to see" and contemplating what she had to say through her art. Finally, the artist realized that the scene held the message and it was her obective to communicate to the viewer what the landscape said to her. Within the last few years, she began the adventure of learning and loving to paint with soft pastels also.

All of Jeannette's paintings are done en plein air, in one sitting. This is a great challenge and brings a great deal of truth to the process. Light, shadow, temperature and mood are all experienced and expressed during each sitting. There are no photographs to paint from, and even if there were, Jeannette would feel slighted by not feeling and interpreting each moment in person.
