This is a plein air painting group that gets together on Tuesdays around the state to paint.

Join Us for "DRAWING BASICS"
March 11th (Sunday) from Noon to 4PM

During our 4 hour class we will work from still life setups and will cover the following drawing techniques & concepts:
1) Sighting to take measurements from your subject and transfer the image to your sketch paper
2) Tonal Value, Edges & Composition Basics
3) Line Styles and Variations: Contour, Gesture, Line Weight & Pressure, Edges, Hatching
4) Tonal Drawing (painterly style) and erasing

Materials needed: Sketch Pad or Newsprint Pad at least 11x14, Drawing board with clips, Easel, Conte sticks (2), Charcoal stick (black) (1) and kneaded eraser, paper towels. You may want to bring some wet wipes for hand cleaning.

The workshop will be held in the garage. Weather permitting we'll have the door open but bring a light jacket just in case. I do have a space heater if needed.

Instructor Bio:
Jeannette Stutzman, a Florida native, has lived in Colorado for nearly 20 years. She is a successful graphic designer (of 27 years) with her own studio, Acme Graphic Design. Jeannette has known that she wanted to be an artist since she was very young, with memories of plans for her art career going back to 2nd grade. She graduated from the Greenville Museum School of Art in Greenville, SC with a degree in Advertising & Design. Jeannette is a painting teacher at Art On The Brix in Golden, an adjunct instructor at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in Lakewood, CO and former art teacher at Artful Journey.

Her mediums of choice are oils and soft pastels and her subject is landscape, finding inspiration and comfort in being outside, experiencing the moment while painting en plein air. Light and shadow along with color temperature and depth are focal points which never seem to stop yielding greater depth and enlightenment of their own for the artist. Jeannette strives to continue learning and evolving and enjoys attending workshops. She has taken from well known artists such as Bob Rohm, Ann Templeton and Richard McKinley.

** The image that you see is of Isabelle, an 8 yr. old (at the time) who wanted to learn to draw and paint a 30x40" oil portrait of herself, her mother and father! I worked with Isabelle on Saturdays throughout the summer, starting with drawing techniques and she painted this gorgeous painting!!
